During the summer there is a lot going on in Gothenburg. Several different summer verandas and rooftop bars open up, there will be outdoor activities in Jubileumsparken, summer coziness in Slottsskogen, lovely boat trips out in Gothenburg's archipelago, visit museums, go to Liseberg, see an outdoor concert or take a trip to the sea and swim. The list can be made as long as desired. ...
Summer in Gothenburg is the time of the year when the city becomes a little extra lovely to visit. The school children have summer holidays from mid-June to mid-August. In 2024, major events such as the Gothia Cup, West Pride, Kulturkalaset, Way out West and the summer scene at Villa Belparc return. Gothenburg's parks become extra cozy during the summer, with space for picnics, cinema, meetings with friends, outdoor concerts and games. You also want to go out into the archipelago, and then there are several different ones boat tours to choose from. A little forgotten gem is Nya Varvet, which is located by the water after the Älvsborg Bridge and is very cozy especially during the summer.
Gothenburg's most famous boat trip, Paddan, runs daily throughout the summer. Liseberg is almost a given visit. If you want to get out to the lighthouse Vinga, you have to take advantage of the few weeks during the summer that the boat trip is offered, if you don't have your own boat, that is. M/S Carl Michael Bellman takes you out on a cozyoat tour to Vinga. You can choose to pre-book lunch or buy something on board in the café. On the island of Vinga, you can visit the Evert Taube museum, which is his childhood home. Evert spent his childhood years at Vinga (1890-1904) when his father was a quartermaster here.
The tour includes a stop at Vinga for 2 hours, you can walk around the island, swim, visit the museum and visit the lighthouse.

Board a guided tour with Paddan from Kungsportsplatsen and the tour takes you via the canals from the 17th century out to Gothenburg's harbor past the fishing harbor, shipyards, homes and other areas in the harbor entrance. Remember to wear clothes according to the weather - as the boat is without a roof. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the boats.

You pay a fixed price for the card that is valid for different numbers of days: 1, 2, 3 or 5 days. Visit as many attractions as you can of all that is included.
In the Jubileumsparken you can do various activities during the summer. How about sailing, take a dip in the newly opened the pool, play on the amazing outdoor playground, go skateboarding, canoe in the river. There are also cozy places to have a coffee here with a picnic.
The Jubilee Park in Frihamnen was inaugurated on 4 June 2023 during Gothenburg's 400th anniversary by King Carl XVI Gustaf himself during the Gothenburg Jubilee Festival.
During the summer, sailing camps are also organized in Jubileumsparken. The focus is on trying out and learning to sail. But there will also be other fun activities such as swimming in the harbor pools, playing and trying roller skates. It is also a way to meet new friends. STCC is Scandinavia's leading racing championship that was founded in 1996. Now the racing competition returns to Gothenburg and this time it will be the premiere of the world's first 100% electric national championship. The championship is decided on a Head 2 Head track on the Valhalla Oval next to the Ullevi arena. The track is 625 meters and two drivers meet at a time. In addition to racing cars at breathtaking speeds, you will also experience demonstrations with Stark VARG – the most advanced electric motorcycle in the world. And exciting freestyle motocross.
Outside the competition arena, the area is opened up for a folk festival where everyone is invited. Here you will be able to participate in several activities, such as meeting drivers and teams, test driving the STCC cars on the Gothenburg track using a simulator, meeting the event's partners and enjoying good food from several different food trucks.

In Gothenburg's largest park, Slottsskogen, you can take a walk, have coffee at cafes, buy an ice cream, have a picnic on one of the lawns, play at the Plikta playground and also visit the Children's Zoo. At the Children's Zoo, the children can meet the Sheep, the Jämtland goat, the Gotland rabbit and the Orusthen. Next to the children's zoo is the pony ride, where children can ride for a fee. In Slottsskogen there is also a small Zoo with animals such as seals, moose and penguins.
Season: The children's zoo is open every day from April 25 2024 at 10-16.30. The zoo is open all year round. Free entrance.
Experience a guided tour around Hisingen, Sweden's fifth largest island. On the tour, you can buy something in the cafe and at the same time learn about Gothenburg's history. Discover Hisingen via the boat route! Ride along at a leisurely pace around Hisingen. You travel through rugged cliffs, green meadows, cultural landscapes, etc. During the journey you are guided via recorded guidance in Swedish and English. Feel free to sit on the sun deck on the upper level.

When darkness falls and the summer evening takes over, then there will be an outdoor cinema under the open sky in Slottsskogen. In 2023, approx. 12,000 cinemagoers came to Azaleadalen and watched films. We'll see if there will be more this year. Which film will be shown will be decided closer to the festival day.
Before the film, artist performances are offered to get you in the mood. Good food is also available for purchase from food trucks on site. The movie usually starts around 22:00. Bring something comfortable to sit on and maybe a warm sweater. It will be a wonderful event with outdoor cinema in the green. Please come in good time. Free entrance.

Do the children want to learn to swim in the sea this summer? Book yourself to swimming schools at various locations in Gothenburg both indoors and outdoors during the summer. See what the Lifesaving Society is providing this summer for both children and adults.

In the summer, you can go out to the fortress Nya Älvsborg and spend a day there. On a nice summer day, it is really a tip to go out here. The boat departs from Lilla Bommen and the journey out takes about 30 minutes. You get to see a lot of Gothenburg's harbor. There is also a café on the fortress island. Otherwise, you can bring your own picnic basket and sit down on a blanket in a cozy place and just enjoy the summer and the island.
In 2023, Gothenburg celebrated 400 years and the New Älvsborg Fortress has since 1677 protected Gothenburg from several attacks from the Danes. There are even old cannonballs left in the stone walls of the fortress. Perhaps you have heard of Tordenskiöld active in the Danish Royal Navy, who in 1719 came with his troop to capture both Nya Älvsborg Fortress and Nya Varvet.
The trip out to New Älvsborg Fortress is very popular so it is best to book your tickets online in advance. The ticket queues can be long on a fine summer's day and then it's nice to already have your ticket fixed.

During the summer of 2024, the very popular summer brunch at sea will return. This year there will be a stop at Styrsö. You eat a brunch buffet with classic dishes with elements of summer. There will be different kinds of herring, salads, charcuterie, freshly baked bread, etc. After the meal you go ashore at Styrsö Bratten (a shorter stop) and on the way back you enjoy the dessert buffet.

Have you received your summer holiday card before the summer holidays? The card is valid on all Västtrafik vehicles throughout Västra Götaland, Zone ABC. You can travel 24/7 with the card between June 1 - August 31, 2024.
The summer holiday card is valid for those who are registered in Gothenburg and are in year 6 to year 2 at high school during the spring semester 2024.
Gothenburg has invested heavily in offering children fun outdoor playgrounds. It's nice to take the children away from the noise of the city into a playground, and in Gothenburg there are actually quite a few. In the Jubileumsparken at Hisingen there is a very nice playground with lots of climbing, slides and swings. Next to the playground is also the outdoor classroom "The nose in the wet" where you can play with water. In Jubileumsparken many fun activiites for children are arranged during summer.
In Slottsskogen is the playground Plikta but lots of fun toys. Gothenburg's natural history museum is also nearby if you want to take a look there as well. There is also a fun playground in the Garden Association in the middle of central Gothenburg. It is slightly smaller but oh so funny.
Gothenburg's outdoor playgrounds are open all year round. On a hot summer day, it can get quite hot in a playground, but there are usually ice cream shops nearby.

The amphibious bus that starts as a bus and then turns into a boat has become very popular in Gothenburg! You get on in central Gothenburg at the Stora Teatern and drive around past various sights. When it then starts to get a little wet, the bus turns into a boat and goes straight into the water. A guide is on the tour and tells you what you pass. You pass Avenyn with Poseidon all the way to the Älvsborg Bridge. A ride on the amphibious bus is really fun and cheeky.

Way Out West is a music festival in Gothenburg that started in 2007.
This summer there will be a festival again on several different stages in Slottskogen. How about artists like Benjamin Ingrosso, PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age, Sampha, Pulp, The National, Kenya Grace and many many more. Because apart from all the concerts, there is good food and drink.

Do you want to take a boat trip out on Göta Älv and go under the Älvsborg Bridge? Yes, then you should go with the Nya Varvet ferry, which takes you on a boat trip from Stenpiren to Nya Varvet just after the Klippan and the Älvsborg Bridge. The boat trip is completely free to take. It's a lovely trip on the old boat from 1893. She was built in Stockholm and has been a Djurgård ferry. Since 2021, she has Gothenburg as her home port
At Nya Varvet there is a hotel, restaurant and cozy outdoor seating in the summer. Why not take a trip just for an ice cream on a hot summer day!.

During Sweden's National Day, June 6, 2024, you can enjoy wonderful music in the green when the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (GSO) moves out and into the Castle Forest for a concert. Bring your blanket and something good to eat and enjoy the hopefully nice weather and beautiful music. The concert has become a tradition in Gothenburg and attracts many spectators.

Liseberg is probably a bit of a must during the summer. The amusement park is suitable for all ages. For those of you who love to ride fast and around, you have lots of rides to choose from, for the smaller children there is Rabbitland and slightly less fast-paced rides but just as much fun. Summer is also concert time at Liseberg. Several famous artists come to the main stage. And for those of you who love to dance, there will be dance evenings at the Polketten again to famous dance bands. Liseberg is also very cozy to just stroll around, eat something good and watch people.
Under Christmas in Gotenburg is Liseberg a very popular place to visit for its cozy Christmas market and open rides.

Att åka RIBbåt är både kul och spännande. Det går fort och det är skumpigt. På denna ribtur åker ni från centrala Göteborg ut till Göteborgs skärgård där havet öppnar upp sig och det är dags att dra på farten. Om en Stena-båt har passerat blir det lite extra skoj att kryssa över vågorna som kommer. Ni stannar till på ön Vinga där ni kan kika runt lite. Kanske får ni även se sälar under båtturen.
RIB står för Rigid Inflatable Boat. Båtarna utvecklades ursprungligen för att amerikanska insatsstyrkor snabbt och säkert skulle kunna transportera människor i alla väder. Det innebär att RIB-båtarna är extremt sjösäkra, klarar öppet hav med upp till fyra meters våghöjd och kan komma upp i hastigheter på 40-50 knop. Ni får både overall och flytväst att låna. Barn under 16 år får endast åka tillsammans med vuxen.

If you want to eat and drink something good, visit the Sommarverandan at the Gothenburg Opera. Here you sit in a lovely position right by the water and look out over the harbor entrance with Frihamnen in the middle, the new Göta River Bridge, Barken Viking and Lilla Bommen. Afterwards, you can take a walk along the quay to Stenpiren.

Slottskogen is Gothenburg's largest public park. It has been available to Gothenburgers since 1874. Here there are large green areas, lakes, animals and a café. A large part of the park consists of natural forest with trees such as oak, beech, maple and linden. A popular area in the park is Azalea Valley. Way out West is a festival that takes place in the park every year. You will also find the famous Plikta playground below Gothenburg's Natural History Museum.

The Botanical Garden is located opposite the Castle Forest at Änggården. Here there are countless flowers, bushes, plants, trees, café. The park has existed since 1923. The garden is open all year round. During the summer, the café and restaurant are also open for good food and drink.

The park is located in the heart of Gothenburg between Drottningtorget and Bältespännareparken (Big Teatern). Really a breathing hole that we like a lot. We usually go here after a trip around town. Here you will find the Rosarie, which is filled with fragrant roses during the summer. Or how about wandering around the beautiful Palm House, where there is a lovely climate with palm trees and tropical plants. There is a café. Free entrance to the park.

The football party
The Gothia Cup is the world's largest football tournament with young people from all over the world. During the Gothia Cup there is a lot going on in town and everyone is welcome to visit the event areas including Heden and watch the matches which are free to attend!

The Cultural festival in Gothenburg is a tradition that welcomes everyone to festivities in and around the city. There will be free concerts, dance, theatre, film, market, exhibitions, shows and lots of good food. Everything at Kulturkalaset is free to take part in, except for what is sold at markets and eateries. Party locations include Heden, Kungstorget, Avenyn, Slottskogen, Gustav Adolfs Torg and Port of Gothenburg, etc.
A different way to see Gothenburg is from a kayak. Calm and quiet, you paddle a bit in Gothenburg's harbor and then the journey continues into Gothenburg's moat. Here you pass many of Gothenburg's famous landmarks and attractions. The journey also goes under Gothenburg's characteristic low bridges where you have to take it carefully so you don't hit your head. Guiding in English.

West Pride is an art and culture festival that takes place every year in June in Gothenburg. The festival is free for visitors and is aimed primarily at LGBTQI people in Gothenburg and Västra Götaland, but also at a wider public nationally and internationally. There will be singing, dancing, parades, performances, parties and much more. Pride Park will be at Kungstorget, where the area will be filled with music, exhibitors and good food and drink.
